Signs My Struts and Shocks Need to Be Replaced

Generally, the struts and shocks will last up to 100,000 miles before they need to be replaced. This being said, you should plan to have your vehicle’s suspension inspected annually to ensure nothing is wrong. Certain suspension problems can break your vehicle’s axles, and this is an intense and costly repair.

Uncomfortable Ride

The primary purpose of the struts and shocks is to keep your vehicle’s body steady when you drive over bumps and uneven pavement. Both suspension parts have fluid inside to absorb the wheel and tire movement. This keeps your ride extremely comfortable, even on bumpy roads.

You need new struts and shocks if you have felt your car, SUV, or truck bouncing more than normal lately. Your vehicle may have struts on all four wheels or struts on the front wheels and shocks on the back wheels. Either way, we can replace both parts and get you back on the road.

Momentum Motion

Aside from bouncing, the struts and shocks prevent your vehicle’s body from responding to your momentum. In other words, without struts and shocks, your vehicle would lean backward when accelerating. It would also lurch forward when you brake. Finally, it will tilt when you turn.

If you are experiencing momentum motion, you may need to replace the struts and shocks. Momentum motion can make driving your automobile difficult because you are in constant motion. We can inspect and repair your vehicle’s suspension, including replacing the struts and shocks.

Oily Struts/Shocks

The struts and shocks contain internal fluid to help them do their jobs. When they get too old, the seals that hold in the fluid break and cause fluid leaks. Unfortunately, this covers the struts and shocks with an oily substance that feels greasy to the fingers.

You can check for leaks by getting down on your hands and knees and reaching up behind each wheel. Touch the struts or shock on that wheel to see if it feels greasy. If everything is dry, your struts and shocks are not leaking. If you feel grease or oil, they are. Look at your schedule and determine a good day to bring your vehicle into our car. Then, call us to schedule an appointment for new struts and shocks if your vehicle needs them.
